Albuquerque man sentenced for South Valley shooting in 2022

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday for shooting and killing a man in the South Valley in 2022.

Joseph Gonzales was found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Abner Antillon. Officials said Gonzales yelled at Antillon, claiming he was speeding near his South Valley home in August 2022.

Antillon stopped the car, and the two got into an argument. Antillon turned around to leave, and Gonzales shot him in the back at least twice, according to court documents.

The victim’s brother said in court Wednesday that his family will never recover, especially Abner Antillon’s son, who was weeks away from being born when his father was murdered. “He was robbed of the chance to meet his son, to hold him for the first time, to see a piece of himself carried into a new generation.
