9/11 triple survivor Gordon Huie shares story of tragedy, resilience, and global advocacy

ALBANY (WRGB) — On September 11, 2001, Gordon Huie faced unimaginable terror as a triple survivor of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Huie, who rescued dozens, lost a family member, and survived the attacks himself, shared his experience.

“When the towers came down, it had a kill radius of four blocks,” Huie said, recalling the devastation. As a surgeon, he sprang into action despite the overwhelming scene. “I had two bandaids in my wallet, and you look at all these body parts and realize two bandaids can’t do anything. I figured the best thing I could do is get to the nearest operating room.”

Huie made his way to Beekman Hospital, where he was trusted to assist despite not having privileges there. By the afternoon, he realized there were no more survivors…
