LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Shade Trees on Playgrounds (STOP) program is now accepting applications to help schools reduce children’s exposure to direct sunlight and lower the risk of skin cancer.
Krissy Kimbro, director of the STOP program, said, “Here in Arkansas, we have a great need. Kids are starting school earlier now.”
“We have a lot of districts that have gone to year-round school, so when kids weren’t necessarily out for recess until mid-September, now they could be out in June, July, August, getting full UV rays.”…
