Family pushes for answers in man’s Sun Prairie manure pit death

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Max Smith, 62, whose body was found on a Sun Prairie farm last month. While the medical examiner concluded Smith died accidentally due to drowning, the family suspects foul play.

Smith was born in Arkansas and spent most of his life in Madison, his family told the Cap Times. He was experiencing homelessness in Madison when he died and it took nearly a month to identify his next of kin and notify his family despite a medical bracelet with his information, they said.
