An incident unfolded on the streets of Las Vegas earlier this week, adding to the city’s traffic-related fatalities for the year. On Tuesday, a collision between a roll-off dumpster truck and a motorcycle at the intersection of North Rancho Drive and West Melody Lane resulted in the death of a 30-year-old male motorcyclist. This marks the 113th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The LVMPD is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
The accident occurred in the afternoon when a 2000 Volvo VNM, operated by 24-year-old Andres Beltran-Amaya from Las Vegas, was making a left turn to westbound Melody Lane. Reports indicate that, attempting to safely make the turn, the driver did not notice the southbound motorcyclist, who subsequently struck the rear of the Volvo truck. This resulted in a severe impact, forcefully ejecting the rider from his 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R motorcycle onto the road.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the severely injured motorcyclist to the UMC-Trauma Unit. Despite all efforts to save his life, he was pronounced deceased.
