Families sue city of Tacoma, WSDOT over deadly intersection crash

TACOMA, Wash. — The families of two victims killed in a July 2023 crash at the intersection of State Route 509 and Alexander Ave. are suing the City of Tacoma, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), and another driver involved in the crash, alleging that the intersection is confusing and dangerous, particularly for drivers unfamiliar with the area.

The crash on July 16, 2023 killed six people and injured three others, according to investigators.
