HONOLULU (KHON2) — Organizers of this weekend’s tribute concert say it’s more than just a show, it’s a celebration of Fiji’s music and his influence across the Pacific. The artist passed away in July at the age of 55.

All 8,500 seats at the Waikiki Shell were snapped up in seconds, while the thousands more tickets for overflow space in Kapiolani Park vanished just as quickly. Altogether, a crowd of some 30,000 is expected at the Fiji Tribute Concert on Saturday night.
“It was overwhelming, which really shows why this was such an important thing to do to honor this man, his legacy and what he leaves behind for us today,” said Kuhio Lewis, event partner.
It’s been years since the Waikiki Shell has seen an event of this magnitude but while the city says it’s used to handling large events, for example, when the Eddie hits the North Shore, the challenge will be managing the massive crowd that’s expected in the heart of Waikiki…
