BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Ridgecrest City Council is slated to discuss a newly proposed ordinance on Wednesday that would ban “dangerous fireworks” and place responsibility on property owners for illegal fireworks activity, according to the city council’s agenda.
The agenda said illegal fireworks increase the risk of ignition and fires, which is a problem for Ridgecrest as the city is in an area that is increasingly prone to fires. Illegal fireworks can also lead to injuries and property damage, including for people involved in setting them off as well as innocent bystanders.
According to city officials, preventing the use of illegal fireworks is difficult as the perpetrators usually flee by the time officers receive reports of such activity and respond.
