Officials from Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity on Thursday launched a new addition to the Roebuck neighborhood – 22 new houses built around the renovated YMCA.
The project will include single-family homes built in partnership with local families, volunteers and community organizations. Future homeowners will contribute what Habitat calls “sweat equity,” working on their own homes, as well as complete homeownership education and purchase their homes through affordable, zero-interest mortgages.
