Florida Holocaust Museum reopens after $8.8 million renovation with new exhibits and enhanced security

The Florida Holocaust Museum has reopened its doors after undergoing the most extensive renovation in its history, an $8.8 million project aimed at modernizing its facilities and strengthening security for visitors.

The updated museum in downtown St. Petersburg debuts with several new features, including a special preview of the Elie Wiesel Collection. Wiesel, the late Holocaust survivor, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former Eckerd College professor, is honored with an exhibit that will eventually include personal artifacts such as his desk and Nobel medal. While the full “Wiesel Experience” is still being assembled, digital archives and selected items are now on display.

Another major addition is the Thor, an authentic Danish fishing boat used in 1943 to rescue Jewish families from Nazi-occupied Denmark. The vessel represents one of several that carried more than 7,000 people to safety in Sweden during World War II…
