Remembering Col. Rick Rescorla a hero that rose up from the 9/11 attacks

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) – When Infantry soldiers graduate from Fort Benning they have a traditional final march with their training company off the graduation grounds at Inouye Field. The also march past the Global War on Terror monument. In that monument is a steel beam that was part of the World Trade Center Towers, the target of the September 11th, 2001 attacks. It’s a powerful visual of the current military is still marching after that tragic day.

“We have just really completed our nation’s longest war as a result of this day. To have a piece of steel, to have a visual and tangible reminder of that day is a powerful reminder especially at our Global War on Terrorism monument,” said National Infantry Museum Arms Curator Christopher Goodrow.

On the columns there’s a plaque that reads “Beam above given by the NYFD in Honor of Col. Rick Rescorla.” The story behind this Vietnam War hero can’t be overlooked because of the lives he saved that day…
