Mother accused of buying gun used in deadly Evansville shooting

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An Evansville mother has been charged following the accidental deadly shooting on East Cherry Street.

EPD confirms Evansville shooting victim has died

On September 4, 14-year-old Jayvion’tae Cox was killed in an accidental shooting on Cherry Street. Police say he was shot by another juvenile who was handling a firearm they believed was unloaded.

A release from the Evansville Police Department says Rachel Banks, 36, has been charged with dangerous control of a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, dealing marijuana and reckless homicide. Court records say her bond is set at $25,000.

The release goes on to say that Banks purchased the firearm used in the accidental shooting that left one juvenile deceased. Police say she purchased gun for her juvenile son. Police go on to say they found evidence that Banks was also helping her son buy marijuana…
