GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Gainesville commissioners unanimously approved the first reading of their budget Wednesday. In the budget is an increase of city spending by 4.3%. They also voted to raise Gainesville’s millage rate by 4.7%.
City leaders voted unanimously in favor of the budget, and voted six to one in favor of raising the millage rate. Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker was the lone dissenting vote.
In their agenda, they wrote that they were increasing the millage rate from 6.4297 to 6.7297. That’s a 4.7% increase; city leaders say it will be a 12.27% increase from their rollback rate…
