Metro ordinance leaves Louisville homeowners on the hook to pay for public tree removal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – From his Schnitzelburg porch, Mike Olsen watched the Bradford Pear trees along his street grow for 20 years. In a matter of a couple of hours on Tuesday, much of the one in front of his house was gone.

He and several of his neighbors recently received notices from the city to have them removed and foot the bill.

“I had one neighbor not too long ago say, ‘Hey, who planted these trees? And then she says, ‘Well, I had to pay for this tree to be taken down.’ That was the first time I heard that,” Olsen said. “I just thought maybe she was mistaken until it happened to me.”…
