Changes coming to Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program in Tennessee

MORRISTOWN, Ten. (WATE) — Despite uncertainty earlier this year with potential federal funding cuts, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is continuing, but there are some changes in the state of Tennessee.

According to the Douglass Cherokee Economic Authority, the State is delaying the start of the 2026 LIHEAP program year from October to November this year.

Each October, Energy Services Program Manager Tommi Lindsey said their community centers are full of people looking to apply, and as the cost-of-living increases, so does the need for programs like LIHEAP.
