Man takes 50-foot fall at Newport News Shipyard, resulting in severe injuries

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man is fighting for his life after falling from around 50 feet at Newport News Shipyard Tuesday morning, according to the Newport News Fire Department.

The man was a U.S. Navy contractor supporting work on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis when he fell from scaffolding, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and NNFD responded to the incident after request from the shipyard’s medics…
