Syracuse, N.Y. — Nothing gets in the way of a good experience quite like nostalgia.
If you were a regular consumer of roast beef sandwiches at Clark’s Ale House, you may find yourself missing something with the version served at Crooked Cattle in Armory Square. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fine sandwich; a very good — bordering on excellent — tribute to the legendary, but long-departed, beer bar’s calling card.
And it’s not really the restaurant’s fault. If your brain is like mine, it’s wired to expect certain things from a Clark’s Ale House sandwich, including the experience of visiting. The clank of people playing the wall-mounted hook and ring game. Commotion at the bar from people ordering drinks and sandwiches. Mayonnaise dispensed from spigots on the wall. The always interesting assortment of characters inside and outside on West Jefferson Street that made the place special…
