Worcester to appeal ruling that it must pay neighboring town $27M over sewer fees

The City of Worcester wants the Supreme Judicial Court to review a lower court’s order for the city to pay more than $30 million to Holden for overcharging the town for using the city’s sewer system.

Lawyers representing Worcester filed a Further Appellate Review (FAR) application with the Supreme Judicial Court on Sept. 8. A FAR application asks the state’s highest court to review further the ruling made by an appellate court.

An appellate court in August affirmed the previous ruling of Superior Court Judge James Manitsas, who in 2023, ordered Worcester to pay Holden $26,525,786 with 12% added on post-judgment interest for each year the judgment is not paid…
