Southern University lifts campus lockdown; other HBCUs heighten security

Southern University has lifted a lockdown in placed on its campus Thursday morning, though classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week. Students who live on campus are being provided with accommodations, according to a statement from the university. Southern has yet to explain why it put the lockdown in place, citing only a “potential threat.” Persons on campus were advised to shelter in place, and the public was asked not to head to the campus.
