Lubbock city officials report water supply is in good shape

LUBBOCK, Texas — As the city of Lubbock continues to grow, so does the demand for water. Assistant City Manager Erik Rejino said Lubbock’s 100-year water supply plan is to credit for the cities good standing water supply.

“In that plan we look at different things and we know what our next strategy is and we know what our next one after that one is…we look at these one hundred years out to make sure that we can continue to sustain not only what we have today, but also the growth,” Rejino said.

This plan guides every major decision from where we source the water to how the water is delivered to residents. Lubbock sources water from a number of different places like Lake Allen Henry and Lake Meredith to name a few. Rejino also said the city is in a 25-year agreement to supply up to 750,000 gallons of water to the city of Wolfforth.

“That’s just a little over 2 percent of our average daily consumption for the city of Lubbock, which is about 35 million per day…so there’s definitely more than enough capacity and that’s part of our water planning,” Rejino said…
