Kansas City establishes new rules to clean up future used car lots

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – City leaders tell owners of some independent used car lots to clean up their property.

The city council approved a plan during a Sept. 11 meeting that established standards for any new used car lots that open in the future.

The requirements include:

  • Having a permanent building of at least 200 square feet on the property
  • Cars must be parked at least 10 feet away from nearby streets and homes
  • Any car repairs must be done inside a building
  • Landscaping is required to block the lot from view
  • Marked parking spaces are required
  • Only one car per 200 square feet
  • Property required to have security lighting
