Stolen ambulance crashes in Metro East

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (First Alert 4) – A stolen ambulance crashed in Madison County on Thursday morning.

Madison County Sheriff Jeff Connor told First Alert 4 that a patient stole an ambulance after being transported in it to Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. Granite City officers then put out a call regarding the ambulance theft.

A Madison County deputy spotted the stolen ambulance and started pursuing it, with other agencies joining in. When the ambulance went over a hill on northbound Route 111, a South Roxana unit deployed stop strips.
