SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)- The Louisiana Department of Health, the Northwest Louisiana Human Services District, and New Day Recovery partnered to host “Still Standing: A Celebration of Recovery,” which is a unique event that celebrates those on the long, hard road to rehabilitation from substance abuse.”
Nurse practitioner and co-event coordinator Karla Gipson explained how people often forget recovery should be celebrated just like any other holiday.
“We tend to celebrate birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. We don’t typically ever celebrate people suffering from substance abuse disorder,” said Gipson.
