AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — It was not just federal agents on the scene of the ICE raid at protein bar factory in Cato. Standing at the perimeter, deputies from the Cayuga County and Oswego County sheriff’s offices assisted the feds with crowd control and redirecting traffic.
The raid shocked the community and drew criticism, even from Mayor Robert Corradino, a Republican, from the nearby City of Oswego. The feds refuse to give answers as to where the 57 workers detained by ICE are and what justified such an intense response.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck added to the opacity when, following the raid, he issued a statement that his office assisted the federal agents because of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into “felony level crimes” — not civil immigration offenses…
