Corvallis, OR – Residents across Benton County are being warned today about a phone scam involving callers impersonating sheriff’s deputies.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), scammers are spoofing the agency’s phone number and introducing themselves as “Sgt. Corey.” The callers allegedly claim the recipient has a warrant, owes delinquent fines, or that a family member is in trouble.
Officials stressed that these calls are fraudulent. “Law enforcement agencies will not call you and demand payment,” BCSO said in its warning Friday. Authorities urge anyone receiving such a call to hang up immediately and not provide money or personal information…
