A full-scale replica of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief – the vessel that first journeyed from Buffalo to New York City to mark the canal’s completion – will reach Brewerton, its 12th stop, on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 6.
The Greater Oneida Lake Chamber of Commerce, NOPL Brewerton, Cicero Youth Bureau Parks & Recreation, and Brewerton area businesses are working together to host the visit. The community is invited to help welcome the crew and take part in free activities from 3 pm to 7 p.m. at Riverfront Park, 5449 Bennett St., Brewerton, weather permitting.
To mark the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal’s opening, the Buffalo Maritime Center (BMC) has built the Seneca Chief – which was constructed by nearly 200 volunteers and students between October 2020 and its launch in June 2024.
