Nationwide – History was made last month as 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College celebrated a powerful milestone: its first anniversary as a state-authorized, degree-granting institution, and the graduation of its first class of 154 students. Founded by Dr. Shakea Miller, the college marks a groundbreaking achievement as she became the first African American woman in Alabama to open and lead such an institution, and one of only six Black women in the entire United States to do so.
The celebration followed local recognition, as Dr. Miller was recently honored with the Publisher’s Award by The Courier Eco Latino newspaper and featured in the July issue of The Eco Latino Magazine for her leadership in education and her impact on underserved communities.
“This isn’t just about me, this is about legacy,” said Dr. Miller in her interview. “We are rewriting the rules and restoring hope for students who once believed college wasn’t in their future.”…
