SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is investigating after an inmate was found dead in their cell on Tuesday, Sept. 9, one day after they were booked in jail.
According to GCSO, 43-year-old inmate Joseph Choate was found unresponsive while a detention officer was doing a security round.
The detention officer rendered medical aid to Choate while additional detention officers and medical staff responded to the scene, providing medical aid such as CPR to Choate, GCSO says. Cox EMS also arrived and pronounced Choate dead at 3:21 p.m.
