Mayor Mobolade marks 9/11 at UCCS ceremony

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade joined students, staff, and community members at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) on Thursday, Sept. 11 to remember the lives lost and celebrate the community that came together 24 years ago.

The community came together Thursday morning at the flagpole in front of Gateway Hall on the UCCS campus for the lowering of the flag. Afterwards, they continued on to the 9/11 memorial in front of the Engineering building for a moment of silence and remarks from members of the campus as well as Mayor Mobolade.

“When we do this every year, 24 years, it’s an opportunity to remember, but it’s also an opportunity to re-center ourselves around what’s most important and who are as Americans, who we are as humans,” said Mobolade. “And that’s truly what we’re celebrating… with not only remembering the past, we are re-committing ourselves for a better way for the future.”

Mayor Mobolade said one of the best ways to continue to honor the victims of 9/11 is by supporting those who serve today, including first responders, the military, veterans, and their families…
