The Loveland Stone Age Fair, approaching a century old, is returning to town, promising a free, fun and educational Saturday for children and adults alike.
The fair, now in its 91st year, will be hosted between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the McKee, 4-H, Youth and Community Building at the Ranch this Saturday, and will feature lectures, booths where attendees can have arrowheads, spearheads, fossils and other artifacts identified, and even a play area where children can dig for their own authentic artifacts that they can then take home.
Much like the artifacts on display, the Stone Age Fair’s significance can be easy to overlook, according to Loveland Archaeological Society President Andy Coca. Founded in the 1930s, some residents might ignore it as a novelty, but to those in the know, it’s an important meeting of the minds in archaeological circles, and each year becomes one of the foremost collections of ancient North American artifacts in the country, with Coca’s rough estimate in the hundreds of thousands of individual pieces on display…
