Viva Las Vegas Solo! A Travel Writer’s Guide to Sin City Solitude
I’m a travel journalist, and Vegas is my jam. Over the past 15 years, I’ve explored this dazzling desert oasis countless times with friends and family, but solo trips have become my absolute favorite.
Contrary to what you might think, Vegas isn’t just for high rollers and party animals. It’s a surprisingly fantastic destination for solo adventurers like myself.
Strolling the Strip and soaking up the spectacle is my personal Vegas happy place. The iconic four-mile stretch is surprisingly walkable, and I love meandering from the Luxor to the Fashion Show Mall, popping into legendary casinos like Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, and the Wynn. I always feel safe, day or night, thanks to the constant buzz of activity.
Vegas boasts some truly stunning hotels, and when I’m flying solo, I prioritize safety and comfort. The Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is a personal fave – stylish rooms, a sprawling pool, and tons of dining options mean I can stay put and pampered if I choose. While budget-friendly motels abound, I prefer to splurge on a comfortable and secure basecamp.
Dining solo in Vegas is a culinary adventure. The city is a gourmand’s paradise, with celebrity chef outposts galore.
I love grabbing a seat at the bar – it’s a great way to chat with fellow diners and the culinary wizards themselves. You never know who you’ll meet!
(Of course, standard safety precautions apply – keep an eye on your belongings and beverages.) From high-end haunts like Nobu to the guilty pleasures of In-N-Out and Taco Bell Cantina, Vegas has it all.
I’m not a big barfly when I’m alone, but the vibrant Tiki bars, like The Golden Tiki and Frankie’s, are an exception – their festive atmosphere is perfect for solo sipping.
Poolside relaxation is a must in Vegas, and thankfully, the weather usually cooperates. I steer clear of the boisterous day clubs and prefer the tranquil vibes of hotel pools, like the ones at Park MGM and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Vegas is an entertainment mecca, and I always make time for unique experiences. From Cirque du Soleil spectacles to immersive art exhibits like Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, there’s always something to stimulate the senses.
But what truly keeps me coming back to Vegas is the thrill of discovery. Unearthing hidden gems, like the secret pizza spot at The Cosmopolitan or the classic Italian charm of Battista’s Hole in the Wall, is part of the magic. Vegas is a city of constant reinvention, and there’s always something new to explore.
