JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has released preliminary details and video regarding an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Cale Tyler Gilbert on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The incident began around 6 p.m. at Dutton Island Preserve when Gilbert was reportedly firing a rifle into the water. A husband and wife fishing nearby heard the shots and approached Gilbert. According to reports, Gilbert then pointed the rifle at the man and fired shots near his feet.
The couple attempted to leave, but Gilbert, still armed, approached them and asked for a drink. The woman provided a drink while the husband tackled Gilbert, disarmed him, and threw the rifle into the water…
