City of North Myrtle Beach honors local business owner going into retirement

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — After 65 years of service, North Myrtle Beach business owner Billy Smith prepares for his retirement, but the city wouldn’t let him leave without a proper sendoff.

Smith has owned and operated Smith’s Service Center for the last six decades. He also spent 18 years serving on the city council.

On Friday afternoon, members of the North Myrtle Beach community and city officials gathered at Smith’s shop to send him off to retirement. Mayor Pro-Tempore J.O. Baldwin presented Smith with a key to the city, an honor that Baldwin said wasn’t given without reason…
