ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The City of Rochester is asking for public input to help honor civil rights history at Baden Park. Baden Park is in Rochester’s Upper Falls neighborhood and will be the future home of the Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park.
Shirley Green grew up in the city. She is the commissioner of the city’s recreation and human services department. She says the city wants to share stories of resilience through the decades, the 1964 riots and to honor civil rights history to make the park a cultural landmark. The city needs community input to help design the park.
“We know that our civil rights icons don’t just live in this neighborhood. They lived throughout the Rochester area and so we want to be inclusive of everyone to have their stories heard here at the Civil Rights Park,” said Green. “There is so much history and those components are going to come together in this park so the community can come here and not just play baseball and basketball and sports in the park, but also to reflect upon what has happened in Rochester over the decades.”…
