Family of Marine killed in limo crash want lawyer for Mavis removed

ALBANY — An attorney representing a Marine who was among 20 people killed in the 2018 Schoharie limo crash was in court on Thursday trying to get a downstate law firm, which represents Mavis Discount Tire in the remaining civil lawsuits filed in the wake of the tragedy, removed from the case.

Albany lawyer Brian Premo represents the estate of Michael Ukaj, who fought in the Second Gulf War. He’s seeking to “disqualify” Yankwitt LLP, a White Plains law firm that Mavis hired to defend itself in civil cases filed against the company by the families of the victims.

Premo has argued that Yankwitt’s attorney on the case, Benjamin Allee, is a potential witness who could be called to testify in his civil lawsuit against the national tire chain, which serviced the brakes of the 31-foot stretch limo involved in the crash…
