Rapper Cardi B’s latest album promo is turning heads, or at least sparking conversation on social media. The Grammy winner took her marketing campaign underground – literally – hopping on a New York City subway car to hawk CDs of her upcoming album, “Am I the Drama.”
Dressed casually in a hoodie and joggers, Cardi played the role of a struggling artist, telling surprised passengers she was a “mother of three” trying to make ends meet by selling her music. She offered CDs for $9.99 and vinyls for “about 20, 30 dollars,” even stashing cash from a sale in her hoodie. The whole scene took an unexpected turn when a rat scurried across the subway platform, prompting a shriek from the rapper.
The video, posted to Cardi B’s social media, drew mixed reactions. Some fans criticized the stunt as “embarrassing” and a “desperate cry for attention,” while others praised it as a “genius” marketing move. Some supporters even suggested the backlash itself proved the strategy’s effectiveness.
Cardi B jokingly captioned the video with a plea to fans to buy her album and save her from losing her home, though she’s previously denied facing any real financial difficulties. The rapper’s upcoming album, “Am I the Drama,” drops on September 19th.
