Wildcats overwhelm Panthers on Homecoming Night

The Schley County Wildcats (SCHS) were able to take advantage of several miscues from Chattahoochee County (CHATTCO) and overwhelmed the Panthers 28-0 on Homecoming Night at Schley County High School.

“Our kids just played hard all night long,” SCHS Head Coach Darren Alford said. “We’ve been challenging them week in and week out to be physical. They’re young, so they’re learning how to play football. I think tonight we saw a little bit of how much football that we’ve learned since the beginning of the year. We play a really, really tough non-region schedule and it showed up tonight. The kids, they were tough. They were tougher than CHATTCO tonight. That’s what we want to preach. That’s what we’ve always preached here is toughness.”

The Wildcats were able to hold the Panthers’ offense on their first possession and forced a punting situation, but the ball was snapped over the punter’s head. The CHATTCO punter still tried to get the punt off, but it was blocked by the Wildcats. Jonathan Leggett Jr. caught the blocked punt out of the air and ran the ball 45 yards the other way for a Wildcats touchdown. The extra point by Parth Patel was good and SCHS enjoyed an early 7-0 lead with 10:44 left in the first quarter…
