Welcome back — your week in Duke arts

While classes get into full swing, there are still plenty of performances, workshops and events on campus to have some fun while getting your mind away from the classroom.

The week kicks off on Sunday with an intimate performance in the Nelson Music Room on East campus, courtesy of the Flute Fems. Headlined by Trudy Kane, a former Metropolitan Opera principal flutist, and featuring performances by the Flute 4 quartet, members of the Duke University Flute Ensemble and the Raleigh Area Flute Association, the performance promises to bring heart and style from multiple periods, genres and regions.

On Tuesday, there are multiple offerings for those looking to stretch their minds and bodies. Chania Wilson (MFA ‘25) is leading a workshop on Modern Fusion Dance, a dance type incorporating multiple genres into each performance. The workshop promises to be complex, rewarding and heavily influenced by “polyrhythm, polycentrism, and overall african/jazz [music].”…
