Habitat for Humanity receives grant to help with storm recovery efforts

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama has received a major grant from Verizon that will help in the organization’s storm recovery programs, a news release said.

The $250,000 grant is funded through Verizon’s Disaster Resilience initiative and will be used to help residents repair storm damage to their homes and incorporate FORTIFIED building techniques.

“FORTIFIED is a voluntary construction and re-roofing program designed to strengthen homes and commercial buildings against specific types of severe weather such as high winds, hail, hurricanes and even tornadoes,” according to the FORTIFIED website.
