Staten Island’s new ShopRite opens Sunday: Here’s a peek inside

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Every inch of Staten Island’s newest ShopRite, Great Kills, features a unique neighborhood connection: From the Bay Terrace Bakery to the Great Kills Kitchen and the Annadale Ales and Brew corner — the store is chock full of borough-inspired departments, vintage artwork and locally popular products. The best part? An entire aisle devoted to Sunday Sauce, where customers can find canned tomatoes, boxes of pasta, olive oil and more.

“We did a lot of research and really leaned into customer feedback to create this store,” noted Tim Mannix a second-generation grocer and vice president of Mannix Family Markets, which owns and operates this new location as well as the other borough ShopRite stores in Graniteville, New Dorp and Charleston. “That’s why you’ll see an homage to all of the neighborhoods we serve, as well as a strong focus on the brands and foods that are popular with our customer base.”

Located at 150 Greaves Lane in Evergreen Plaza — in the space formerly occupied by Pathmark and then SuperFresh — the store will officially open its doors on Sunday, filling a neighborhood grocery gap and bringing life back to the shopping center, which has experienced several vacancies over the past three years.

The Advance/SILive.com was allowed a “sneak peek” inside the new 62,000-square-foot supermarket and the layout is impressive, offering all the usual grocery store staples — Meat, Seafood, Produce and Dry Goods departments — highlighted by a strong focus on fresh, perishable groceries.

“This store is a long time coming,” Mannix said. “We’re hopeful that its opening will take pressure off our other stores and allow for a pleasant shopping experience for customers throughout Staten Island.”

Upon entering, customers are greeted with the smell of fresh flowers in an expansive floral section. This area leads into a massive fresh produce and perishables aisle decorated with bold signage offering tips and tricks to selecting ripe fruits and vegetables.

The seafood and meat departments line the back of store, and the location’s perimeter is completed by the dairy and frozen foods sections.

Mannix said the store will stock over 40,000 products and offer nearly 3,000 sale items each week, while also offering a wide gluten-free and organic selection.

ShopRite’s online shopping service, Order.Pickup.Deliver., will also be available at the new location, as will ShopRite’s premium store brands, Bowl & Basket, Wholesome Pantry and Paperbird.

The store will be open 24 hours, seven days a week, and will employ approximately 300 associates. The company noted that hiring continues to take place for positions at the store. Visit shoprite.com/careers for more details…
