CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Island Montessori Charter School in Carolina Beach recently received a national award by Building Hope, a national non-profit organization that supports charter schools across the United States.
Island Montessori received top honors and $20,000 in the Community Engagement category at Building Hope’s Impact Summit in Miami, Florida. A news release from the school says Island Montessori was chosen from nearly 200 charter schools in 41 states, and recognized “..for its innovative service learning program and strong culture of volunteerism”.
“Our entire school community is deeply honored by this recognition,” Alicia Rheel, the Head of School at Island Montessori said in a comment contained in the news release. “At Island Montessori, we believe service is not just an activity—it’s embedded into our daily work as we help cultivate in our students from the earliest years, to understand their connections to the world around them.
