The Rockport City Council, at its meeting on Friday, Sept. 12, unanimously approved the first of two readings for Ordinance 1991, establishing a 2025 tax rate of $0.426475 per $100 valuation. The decision represents an 11.16% increase in the property tax rate for Rockport residents.
The newly approved rate allocates $0.23143 per $100 for city maintenance and operations, while $0.195072 per $100 is designated for the payment of principal and interest on the city’s debt. This constitutes a change of $0.021181 per $100 from the current rate.
For the average homestead in Rockport, the tax increase is estimated to be approximately $158.15, resulting in a 10.32% rise in the total tax bill. City officials project that the new rate will generate 13.36% more revenue for the city compared to the previous year…
