Iowa Fire Departments Encouraged To Apply For Wildfire Assistance Grants; Deadline Is Oct. 31

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry – Fire Program and the U.S. Forest Service are again offering grants to support rural fire departments in their efforts to combat wildfires. Each grant provides a 50 percent reimbursement for wildland fire equipment, with a maximum reimbursement of $4,500 per department. The grants can be used for various wildfire suppression tools, including slide-in units, hoses, nozzles, adapters, portable tanks and pumps, personal protective equipment, and communications gear. Special requests related to wildfire suppression are also considered.
