Dear Editor: Once again, so-called Christian churches — especially our local diocese of Madison — have been given the opportunity to respond to the humiliation and brutalization of our neighbors, co-workers and friends who have the misfortune of being the wrong color or originating from the wrong country.
Assembly Bill 308 is now before the Wisconsin Legislature. This bill is designed to deny all medical care to undocumented persons regardless of need or extremity of condition. Specifically, the bill would prohibit state, county and village funds from being used for any health care services for a person not lawfully in the U.S.
Their defense will be that they are only impeding payment for services, and that medical care can be given at the discretion and cost to the provider. This is the worst kind of sleazy deception and the most egregious form of cruelty intentional inflicted as they know hospitals and clinics will turn away desperate people…
