Man pronounced dead after being pulled unconscious from Willamette River near Wheatland Ferry

YAMHILL COUNTY, Ore. — A tragic incident Saturday afternoon on the Willamette River near Willamette Mission Park led to the death of a man.

Around 3:45 p.m., a Yamhill County Sheriff’s deputy and marine safety officer on patrol just north of the Wheatland Ferry spotted swimmers in distress and heard someone yelling for help. They rushed over and pulled an unconscious man from the water into their patrol boat.

The victim was taken to the Wheatland Ferry landing on the Yamhill County side to wait for paramedics. In the meantime, CPR was performed and an AED was used until medics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene…
