Woman Wants Big Bucks for $15 Comic Book

A “Pawn Stars” hopeful recently learned the hard way that sometimes a windfall isn’t meant to be. Hoping to cash in on a rare comic book, Myia, the seller, brought a near-mint condition “Werewolf By Night” #32 to Corey Harrison. This particular issue marks the first appearance of the popular Marvel character Moon Knight.

Myia, who snagged the comic for a mere $15 at a garage sale, had the book professionally graded at a near-perfect 9.8. She told Harrison she hoped to use the proceeds to help pay for college. Harrison, impressed by the comic’s condition, called in expert Steve Houston for an appraisal.

Houston declared the comic “a massive book right now,” explaining that while the original “Werewolf By Night” series was short-lived, Moon Knight’s later resurgence in popularity drove up demand for his first appearance. He estimated the comic’s retail value at $50,000.

With dollar signs in her eyes, Myia set her asking price at $60,000. Harrison countered, hoping to negotiate a price closer to the appraised value.

However, Myia, still reeling from the $50,000 appraisal, refused to budge below $52,000. Harrison, unwilling to take such a large risk, ultimately declined to purchase the comic.

Myia walked away empty-handed, proving that even on “Pawn Stars,” aspirational pricing doesn’t always pay off.
