Stonecrester won’t be prosecuted in alleged attack on gate guard

A resident of the Stonecrest community won’t be prosecuted in an alleged attack on a gate guard.

The prosecutor’s office announced this month that it won’t be pursuing a felony charge of battery against 72-year-old Joseph Marc Jerome Melanson.

“Although there was probable cause for the arrest, in exercising prosecutorial discretion, the State Attorney’s Office has elected not to file on the above charge,” State Attorney William Gladson said in his announcement of no information.

A visitor showed up at the entrance gate on Aug. 7 and said he was there to visit Melanson, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. However, the visitor’s information did not accurately match the information Melanson had provided for the guest list…
