Today marks seven years since Hurricane Florence struck the Carolinas

Seven years ago today, the infamous Hurricane Florence made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, NC, beginning it’s agonizingly slow assault of heavy rain that led to catastrophic flooding in parts of the Carolinas.

The storm, originally threatening to strike as a major hurricane, weakened to a Category 1 before it’s landfall in Wrightsville Beach. While the were still gusty, Florence was known for it’s water impacts as most of it’s time overhead, it was a tropical storm.

Florence’s slow movement led to widespread rain totals with some pockets locally picking up nearly TWO FEET of rainfall…
