Local vets experience an Honor Flight

Two local veterans joined 77 other veterans and guardians Aug. 13 for the second Honor Flight of the Ozarks this year from the Springfield-Branson National Airport. The group experienced a whirlwind tour of monuments in Washington D.C., in one experience-packed day.

Honor Flights include visits to major national memorials focusing on the World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Vietnam War Memorial, plus Arlington National Cemetery, often including the Tomb of the Unknowns. Other stops may include the Lincoln Memorial, Marine Corps War Memorial and Air Force Memorial, depending on the flight’s itinerary.

John Miskelly, 82, of Norfork, retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant, and Thomas Hart, 81, of Lakeview, retired a U.S. Navy master chief, recently sat down with The Bulletin to talk about their service to our country and the trip of a lifetime…
