WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCSC) – Older adults in the Tri-County got some extra help staying cool. It’s all thanks to ‘Project Cool Breeze’s’ last distribution event of the year. The charity has been giving away free fans and air conditioning units to seniors in need for the last 26 years.
Project Cool Breeze serves hundreds of seniors each year. Charleston County District 111 Representative Wendell Gilliard says for many older adults, extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable, it can be dangerous.
“We’ve had doctors calling us, telling us look, we have a senior that’s about to go home and by virtue of the medication that they’re on, they can’t have any type of uncomfortable heating,” Gilliard said…
